Put your hand back down. Its almost laughable, at the same time, its awesome. Youve seen the new leaders that come into an organization and they go, Okay, everything was working great, but let me tell you whats going to change. Well thats just an ego. And isnt it true? Thats my responsibility as a leader to go and meet the people Im leading, to know where they are and how I can help them get to where they want to go. Man, George, you got it. Maybe this is the year thats different for you. I want to tell you how Im growing. Heres how this works. But I want to challenge you like Vance does. I mean, lets-. This might be the year, this might be the tool that really will create that change and by being resistant to change, you are ensuring that youll never change. My family was always in a spotlight. One of the disciplines that I have is in a year end review this year, some years its monthly. When you start saying what the common language is and you start holding yourself accountable, now you start giving expectation of why were doing this, the desired outcome. I know Im known for leadership, I understand that. Using Johns analogy, I have leadership tendencies, but I wasnt born a leader, but I was born to lead. In the first 60 days of a year, Im reviewing it every day. A young boy enters a store and, in keeping with the times, asks the store owner if he can work for him that day. Episodes. If you really cannot answer that in a positive way, to be honest with you, youre not going to be near as successful as you would like to be. When we wrote this book, and we really brought a team of people around John, it was with this realization that the world is changing, but leadership is not changing with it.
